IPD Performance Plenum Intake for Porsche 996 3.4L

The revolutionary and patented design of the aluminum "Y design" IPD intake chambers significantly improves air intake flow by replacing the original "T" design plastic pipe.

The IPD intake chamber distributes airflow much more efficiently by using a fusion manifold to avoid pressure drop, reduce turbulence to increase airflow velocity. This superior, proven design ultimately results in significant horsepower gains across the entire power and torque range.

IPD has tested numerous internal surfacing techniques inside the plenum, including polishing, extrusion lapping, epoxy coating, and shot blasting to name a few.

A sustained development program and countless hours on the dyno testing/refining each model of intake chamber to achieve the highest level of quality and performance for your Porsche®.

The 996 didn't mark the start of a new Porsche chapter, it marked the start of a new Porsche book. The prolific 911 was christened and water-cooled, leaving the legendary air-cooled engine to live on in Porsche history.

The 911's total engine redesign was fitted with the plastic "T" shaped air distributor that Porsche had used since the early days of the 911. This intake system was fitted to virtually all 911 Carreras up to the arrival of DFI cars in 2009.

The unique, innovative and patented design of the Plenum IPD utilizes a "Y" design which improves performance by channeling air left and right to the cylinder banks more efficiently. This design reduces turbulence and increases airflow velocity, resulting in substantial horsepower gains across the entire rpm range.

The IPD intake chamber not only delivers impressive power and torque gains, but also creates a more linear power and torque band. Tiptronic customers even report considerable improvements with more positive shifting after installing IPD plenums.

For decades, Porsche has controlled engine power by limiting the intake tract. This has been successfully achieved using smaller throttle bodies. This simple power control solution has been a very effective way of preventing lower level models from overpowering some flagship models, especially models with a prolific racing pedigree. Although factory engines are fantastic performance machines, they are designed and developed to achieve specific performance that satisfies a target demographic and rivals competing brands. Unfortunately, driving enthusiasts looking for a top-level Porsche driving experience demand levels of performance far beyond the target market.

IPD pioneered a new plenum design with the Carrera Competition Plenum. Laminar flows and volumetric efficiency have been further improved with the unique and innovative internal collection area. This totally new approach not only resulted in significant performance gains, but also more linear power delivery and better throttle response. Gains vary depending on pre-existing modifications and the quality of the exhaust fitted. As we should all know, horsepower and torque get harder to find and generally more expensive the higher up the performance ladder you go.

That being said, performance components produce different power gains depending on the order in which they were installed. IPD tests and evaluates all of its products on production cars, which helps to establish a level playing field and a better comparison. The Competition Carrera intake chamber, however, is designed to work with applications that are already moderately or heavily modified. Power gains vary from Carrera to Carrera, but the bottom line is that they are noticeable and impressive, which is sure to put a smile on any Porsche Carrera driving enthusiast.

Power gains will be fully realized once the factory ECU/DME has made all the necessary "adaptations". This process can be sped up by a series of "hard pulls" or brisk full-throttle accelerations. Of course, this should only be done on a closed circuit.
