The revolutionary and patented design of the aluminum "Y design" IPD intake chambers significantly improves air intake flow by replacing the original "T" design plastic pipe.

The IPD intake chamber distributes airflow much more efficiently by using a fusion manifold to avoid pressure drop, reduce turbulence to increase airflow velocity. This superior, proven design ultimately results in significant horsepower gains across the entire power and torque range.

 

IPD has tested numerous internal surfacing techniques inside the plenum, including polishing, extrusion lapping, epoxy coating, and shot blasting to name a few.

The throttle body is the part of the air intake system that controls the amount of air flowing into the engine, in response to the accelerator pedal (Located between the air flow meter and the intake plenum ).

The largest part inside the throttle body is the throttle plate, which is a butterfly valve that regulates airflow. With a larger diameter body, the airflow will be greater for more power. This 82mm Butterfly Upgrade fits Competition Plenums

After a very extensive R&D program, IPD has launched the 981 IPD 82 mm competition plenums. IPD offered only "Competition" versions of the 981 plenums that upgrade the factory 74mm throttle body with the larger 997 GT3 82mm throttle body. This combination has proven to be considerably more popular and offers even more performance. This Competition version will work with 3.4L "S" and 2.7L "Non-S" applications.

 

The 981 inlet is almost identical to the 987.2 inlet. Porsche made some improvements to the 981, including having the 981 draw outside air from the driver and passenger air intakes instead of the driver's side only as previously with all 986, 987 and 987.2 applications. IPD developed a custom silicone hose designed to perfectly fit the larger 82mm TB and dramatically improve airflow.

 

Power gains with the 981 Competition Plenum are virtually the same as with the 987.2 Competition Plenum, delivering 20 horsepower and 16 foot-pounds of torque to the wheels. Most of the power gains from the IPD plenum begin around 4000 rpm, continue through redline, and are fully realized in the 6000 rpm range. The IPD performance gains stay above both factory power curves throughout the rev range.

 

The custom IPD silicone tubing is included in the purchase price of the Plenum.
