The revolutionary and patented design of the IPD "Y design" aluminium intake chambers significantly improves air intake flow by replacing the original plastic "T design" pipe.

The IPD intake chamber distributes the air flow much more efficiently by using a fusion manifold to avoid pressure drop, reduce turbulence and increase air flow velocity. This superior and proven design ultimately results in significant power gains across the entire power and torque range.

 

IPD has tested numerous internal surfacing techniques inside the plenum, including polishing, extrusion lapping, epoxy coating, and shot blasting to name but a few.

The throttle body is the part of the air intake system that controls the amount of air flowing into the engine in response to the accelerator pedal (Located between the air flow meter and the intake plenum).

The largest part inside the throttle body is the throttle plate, which is a butterfly valve that regulates the flow of air. With a larger diameter throttle body, the airflow will be greater for more power. This 82mm Throttle Upgrade fits Competition Plenums

After an extensive R&D programme, IPD has launched the 981 IPD 82mm competition plenums. IPD has offered only 'Competition' versions of the 981 plenums that upgrade the 74mm factory throttle body with the larger 82mm 997 GT3 throttle body. This combination has proved considerably more popular and offers even greater performance. This Competition version will run on 3.4L 'S' and 2.7L 'Non-S' applications.

 

The 981 intake is almost identical to the 987.2 intake. Porsche has made a few improvements to the 981, most notably that the 981 draws outside air from the driver's and passenger's air intakes instead of from the driver's side only as previously with all 986, 987 and 987.2 applications. IPD has developed a custom silicone hose designed to fit the larger 82mm TB perfectly and greatly improve airflow.

 

Power gains with the 981 Competition Plenum are virtually the same as with the 987.2 Competition Plenum, delivering 20 horsepower and 16 foot-pounds of torque to the wheels. The bulk of the IPD plenum's power gains begin around 4,000rpm, continue through to redline and are fully realised in the 6,000rpm range. IPD performance gains remain above both factory power curves throughout the rev range.

 

The custom IPD silicone hose is included in the purchase price of the Plenum.
