IPD Performance Plenum Intake for Porsche 991 Carrera/S MKII

The revolutionary and patented design of the aluminum "Y design" IPD intake chambers significantly improves air intake flow by replacing the original "T" design plastic pipe.

The IPD intake chamber distributes airflow much more efficiently by using a fusion manifold to avoid pressure drop, reduce turbulence to increase airflow velocity. This superior, proven design ultimately results in significant horsepower gains across the entire power and torque range.

IPD has tested numerous internal surfacing techniques inside the plenum, including polishing, extrusion lapping, epoxy coating, and shot blasting to name a few.

A sustained development program and countless hours on the dyno testing/refining each model of intake chamber to achieve the highest level of quality and performance for your Porsche®.

The 991.2 Carrera is the first Carrera to abandon naturally aspirated in favor of forced induction using turbochargers. Porsche downsized to 3.0 liters (from 3.8L and 3.4L) but was still able to produce 414 HP and 368 TQ with twin turbos. IPD plenums offer substantial performance gains with naturally aspirated engines, but the proven, patented design offers even more impressive HP and TQ gains with turbocharged applications, such as the 991.2 Carrera.

Like all IPD plenums, the 991.2 plenum is an efficiency product that produces substantial HP and TQ gains through a superior, patented “Y” design that manages and delivers optimized airflow for improved performance engine performance and improved boost response. The Plenum has been proven to deliver substantial net performance gains across both powerbands, from launch to redline, and is guaranteed to enhance the driving experience of any Carrera.

Development started with a 1D simulation to optimize the handling of pulse spikes in the intake duct using a different pipe geometry and engine parameters known from the 992. IPD then evolved into 2D slice optimization of the plenum in CFD, paying particular attention to locations with adverse pressure gradients that could cause separation. This made it possible to adjust the bends on the faces of the plenum and to better understand what was happening inside the pipe at full throttle.

After being satisfied with the 2D slices, IPD moved to 3D, adding all the geometry to make it a ready-to-run part with optimal performance characteristics. After hundreds of geometry and CFD iterations, IPD was pleased with not only the increased mass flow over the stock intake, but also the uniformity of load pressure and velocity across the 2 branches.

Plenum efficiency significantly reduces initial turbo lag, allowing quicker access to power and torque, but most of the power and torque gains start at 4000 rpm, where it is most needed and most appreciated. HP and TQ gains continue to grow and outperform the factory air distributor as you rev up with peak gains of 30+ impeller HP and 32+ impeller TQ being experienced in the 6000 rpm range.
